1985 is the publication date of a textbook for aspiring hairdressers that I happened to purchase on Ebay three years ago.I was immediately intrigued by the stark, almost graphic aesthetic of the black-and-white images, and bought the same book again, then set to work. The result is a series that is minimal and clean, yet has an iconic feel.I listened to Kraftwerk's epic album Radioactivity while working; the robotic chants and tinny synth sounds were the perfect soundtrack.I decided to name each Image randomly after a German city. 1985 is my homage, my memory of the eighties of an analog aesthetic before the advent of digital images.

From the beginning I wanted the heads to look really iconic, so after completing the analogue process I tranferred each collage on large Alu Dibond plates.
